Fabrication of Quasicrystalline Scaffolds From the Al-Cu-Fe System by Dynamic Freeze-Casting

چکیده

In this study, scaffolds whose main phase is an icosahedral quasicrystal (i-QC) were prepared for the first time by dynamic freeze-casting. Two different metal powders used here, namely pure aluminum and quasicrystalline particles from Al-Cu-Fe system. These powers initially mixed with deionized water, citric acid, poly(vinyl alcohol). The obtained slurry was frozen while rotating freeze-dried under vacuum. green bodies subsequently heat-treated in a reducing atmosphere. total porosity mean pore size evaluated these 62.4 ± 3.0% 67.3 2.8 μm, respectively. This that freeze-drying has been preparation of QC scaffolds, which reinforces novelty study. addition, proposed route simple, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, also worth highlighting.

Stable Quasicrystalline Phase in Al-Cu-Fe-Cr Coating Materials

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies have been carried out on magnetron-sputtered coatings in the Al-rich region of the Al-Cu-Fe-Cr quasicrystalline phase field, focusing on the composition that exhibited the best tribological performance among a group of sputtered coatings. The size of the particles in the as-deposited coating is around 10 nm. The TEM experiments on annealed coatings...

Microstructural evolution in Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystalline thin films

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was performed to study the microstructural evolution in Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystalline thin films. Thin films were grown by magnetron sputtering on sodium chloride crystals, which were subsequently dissolved in water to acquire free-standing films. Studies were conducted on the as-deposited sample, and samples that were annealed at 400 8C in Argon and 500 8C in...

Laser processing and microstructure of Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystalline coatings on Al-base materials

There is a large interest in using high power lasers for surface alloying or cladding on aluminium alloys, in order to enhance hardness and to improve wear resistance. A partly quasicrystalline surface layer (QC) (Al-Cu-Fe coating) has been obtained by laser cladding on Al-base materials. In addition to crystalline phases (Al5Fe2 and AlisFe4t -with dissolved copper), a quasicrystalline Al-Cu-Fe...

Activation of Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystalline surface: fabrication of a fine nanocomposite layer with high catalytic performance

A fine layered nanocomposite with a total thickness of about 200 nm was formed on the surface of an Al63Cu25Fe12 quasicrystal (QC). The nanocomposite was found to exhibit high catalytic performance for steam reforming of methanol. The nanocomposite was formed by a self-assembly process, by leaching the Al-Cu-Fe QC using a 5 wt% Na2CO3 aqueous solution followed by calcination in air at 873 K. Th...

Formation of alpha-approximant and quasicrystalline Al-Cu-Fe thin films

Multilayered Al/Cu/Fe thin films have been deposited by magnetron sputtering onto Si and Al2O3 substrates with a nominal global composition corresponding to the quasicrystalline phase, 5:2:1. Subsequent annealing was performed on samples up to 710 °C. It is found that when using Si as substrate a film-substrate reaction occurs already below 390 °C, where Si diffuses into the film. This changes ...
